The Prayer Poem
(by-Chris Barnes)
there has to be more than this wretched earth,
man has paid his dues and deserves his worth,
pray be there return of laughter and mirth.
pray for universal commandments where 'thou shalt,
not kill,' means not killing, no more blood spilling,
noble truth on paper worth more than a cent or shilling.
stand up people of light and all races of the world,
come together share and unite and fight for right,
an end to greed, an end to tragedy and human need.
call it spirit, call it karma, call it the kingdom,
In thought or deed this inner voice cries revelation aloud,
to all who will listen pious, devout, agnostic, down and out.
with the old ways, change the path of earth for good,
feed the psyche of the world and its belly,
bolster souls of pure harmony,
ring out hope's bell in synchrony.
sounding save the planet, save its peoples and resources,
outpouring resolve and rejoicing through this poetry,
Just as the sacred books afore me,
mother earth cries: save my sanity...
