(RTTNews) - Israel has put additional pressure on the Gaza strip by intensifying its raids against the Hamas militia after rejecting an unofficial truce offer from the besieged Hamas rulers of the coastal territory.
...Wednesday, the Israeli government rejected an indirect appeal from Hamas for a truce that would see Palestinian militants end their rocket fire from Gaza in return for a halt to Israeli military operations.
...Israeli officials dismissed the offer made by Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
Israeli Cabinet Minister Shaul Mofaz told Israeli radio that the government would not change its policy on Gaza... Reacting in the same line, Israeli President Shimon Peres termed Haniyeh's comments a "pathetic attempt to move international attention from the crimes of the Hamas and the Islamic Jihad of shooting at innocent civilians."
