Islamic World Demands Peacekeeping Role

Muslim leaders slammed the UN Security Council for failing to condemn Israel for its barbaric attacks on Lebanon, demanded an immediate end to the three-week-old offensive, and the inclusion of Muslim forces in any future peacekeeping operation, Reuters News Agency reported.
The Presidents of Iran and Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, as well the Prime Ministers of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey and Azerbaijan are among the representatives of 18 Islamic States meeting today in Malaysia at an emergency one-day summit of the Muslim World's biggest political bloc, the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
"Until now, unfortunately, the international community is in paralysis," Malaysian Premier Ahmad Abdullah Badawi, the current Chairman of the 57-member OIC, said in his opening speech.
"The Security Council could not even muster the moral courage to condemn Israel for the attack on Qana or the killing of UN observers at Khiam," he added.
Mr Badawi also urged Muslim countries to offer troops for a multinational peace force in Lebanon.
"We must show preparedness to contribute forces for peacekeeping operations under the United Nations banner," he said, adding that "Malaysia is ready to do that."
Conveying the frustration of many people across the Muslim World, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said the failure to halt the violence was "adding to popular anger" and could have "incalculable consequences for long-term peace in the Middle East."
For his part, the OIC's Secretary General, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, said that the Islamic World is "outraged" over international "double standards" on the Israeli offensive in Lebanon.
"I am affraid that the anger of the Muslim masses is being transformed into permanent hatred against the aggressors and their implicit and explicit protectors," he said.
At least 900 Lebanese people, mostly civilians, have been killed and more than 3,000 wounded since Israel launched its deadly offensive in Lebanon, Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora told OIC delegates in a video message.
OIC officials said they're working on a draft communique that would seek to place Muslim "Blue Helmets" under UN control. It also calls for the establishment of an international commission to investigate Israeli war crimes in Lebanon and Gaza.
The OIC draft also calls for an immediate ceasefire, adding to the pressure on Israel and its superpower ally the United States to agree to end the fighting first and then deploy peacekeepers.
Many Muslim nations "asked the OIC to be more active in the peace building process and in the rebuilding of Lebanon after a ceasefire establishes peace," Mr Ihsanoglu told reporters during a break.

The United Nation General Assembly must immediately establish an International Criminal Tribunal for Israel (ICTI) as a "subsidiary organ" under U.N. Charter Article 22.
The ICTI would be organized along the lines of the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia (ICTY), which was established by the Security Council.
The purpose of the ICTI would be to investigate and prosecute Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the peoples of Lebanon and Palestine--Just as the ICTY did for the victims of international crimes committed by Serbia and the Milosevic Regime throughout the Balkans.
The establishment of ICTI would provide some degree of Justice to the victims of Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the peoples of Lebanon and Palestine--Just as ICTY has done in the Balkans.
Furthermore, the establishment of ICTI by the U.N. General Assembly would serve as a deterrent effect upon Israeli leaders such as Prime Minister Olmert, Defense Minister Peretz, Chief of Staff Halutz and Israel's other generals that they will be prosecuted for their further infliction of international crimes upon the Lebanese and Palestinians.
Without such a deterrent, Israel might be emboldened to attack Syria with the full support of the Likudnik Bush Jr. Neoconservatives who have always viewed Syria as "low-hanging fruit" ready to be taken out by means of their Joint aggression.
The Israeli press has Just reported that the Bush Jr administration is encouraging Israel to attack Syria. If Israel attacks Syria as it did when it invaded Lebanon in 1982, Iran has vowed to come to Syria's defense.
And of course Israel and the Bush Jr administration very much want a pretext to attack Iran. This scenario could readily degenerate into World War III.
For U.N. General Assembly to establish ICTI could stop the further development of this momentum towards a regional if not global catastrophe.

The Olmert-Peretz Plan

Nehemia Shtrasler of Haaretz, Israel's most serious newspaper, today sheds light on the objective for Israel's invasion of Lebanon:
"The Olmert-Peretz plan was to shell and demolish South Lebanon and South Beirut until the Lebanese public demanded that its government vomit Hezbollah out from its midst.
It appears that like a number of the Israeli leaders, they did not understand how much killing, poverty and distress people are willing to take, as long as their honor is not harmed, as long as they are not humiliated.
And indeed, instead of demanding that Hezbollah be dismantled, the people of Lebanon want revenge, and they want it now.
That is their response to the killing of 750 civilians and the destruction of thousands of homes, bridges, roads, villages and towns, putting Lebanon 20 years in the past."
With a scorched earth policy being implemented against Lebanon, and a plan to coerce the Lebanese people through a campaign of terror and collective punishment, it is absolutely deceptive and outrageous to claim that the continuous deaths of Lebanese civilians is not deliberate.
With the U.S. and U.K. giving Israel the green light to continue its murderous rampage in the Lebanese slaughterhouse, the orphans' and refugees fury will be felt for generations to come, by Israel and its backers in the West, who allowed it to continue perpetrating crimes against humanity without any interference, whatsoever.
The international community must recognize and lay the blame for the rise of anti-Western sentiment, radicalization and terrosism in the Middle East and the world, squarely on the shoulders of the Olmert-Blair-Bush governments.
By giving Israel their blessings to destroy its northern neighbor, and refusing several calls for an immediate cease-fire, the above trio alone, bear full responsibility for the coming apocalyptic firestorm that will engulf us all.

Israel's "Human Shield" Assertion Falls Apart

As we are constantly reminded by the disinformation media and Israel's hasbara (propaganda) machine, that the reason there are so many civilian deaths in the current war waged by Israel against the defenseless civilian population of Lebanon, is that Hizbullah fighters constantly hide behind helpless civilians and uses them as "human shields," in order to prevent the Israel Death Forces from attacking them.
Therefore, Israel has no other option than to fire at Hizbullah and their civilian "hostages," in order to protect Israeli citizens from incoming rockets.
The following is a quote that I took from Israel's daily newspaper, Haaretz:
"As the Israel Air Force continues to investigate the air strike, questions have been raised over military accounts of the incident.
It now appears that the military had no information on rockets launced from the site of the building, or the presence of Hezbollah men at the time.
The Israel Defense Forces had said after the deadly air-strike that many rockets had been launched from Qana. However, it changed its version on Monday.
The site was included in an IAF plan to strike at several buildings in PROXIMITY to a previous launching site. Similar strikes were carried out in the past.
However, there were no rocket launches from Qana on the day of the strike."
