From the late 1960s the Irish Republican Army was considered one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world. In July 2002, the IRA celebrated the anniversary of the 1972 "Bloody Friday" bombings in which Catholic terrorists exploded 22 bombs among civilians in the space of eighty minutes, killing nine people and injuring 130 more (72 of whom were women and children).

For years Rep. Peter King (R-NY) actively supported the Irish Republican Army as it waged a Catholic terrorist campaign to eject the Protestant British troops from Northern Ireland. But King argues his strong support of radical Christian terrorism has no bearing on his decision to hold hearings on what he calls the "radicalization" of American Muslims. King argues the IRA never launched attacks in the United States (that made sense since Irish-Americans were providing crucial material support to the IRA).

Sadly, history shows that Americans will gladly sacrifice the rights of other Americans for the illusion of feeling safe, as witnessed when innocent Japanese Americans were sent to concentration camps in 1942, viewed as subversive on account of their ethnicity.

At a time when 60% of Americans don't even know a Muslim, and nearly 50% hold a negative view of Islam, it's not surprising that 52% of Americans are comfortable with King's witch hunt being focused solely on American Muslims.

So how about this? The Congress holds hearings to initiate investigations of the role of American Catholics in supporting IRA Catholic terrorists - of whom the Irish Catholic congressman Peter King professes great loyalty and admiration. Sound fair enough?
