SEOUL, May 25 (AP) - (Kyodo)—A senior official at South Korea's presidential office said that North Korea notified the United States of its nuclear test on Monday in advance.
"It's my understanding (North Korea) has notified the United States in advance," he said.
He said whether North Korea notified China of the test in advance has not yet been confirmed.
The official also said South Korea has followed signs North Korea may conduct a nuclear test since work near the test site was detected in March.
"It is not an abrupt development because we thought the test may take place and monitored the situation closely," he said.
North Korea announced Monday that it carried out its second underground nuclear test.
