In the past, our radical Islamists talked about "pro-American Islam." Today, our radical secularists are chewing the gum of "moderate Islam."
...According to our radical secularists, moderate Islam is a US project with the purpose of undermining the secular republic through the agency of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
On the other hand, our radical Islamists claim that under the pro-American Islam project, the US is trying to keep Islam away from state administration and politics and to create a Protestant Islam. For instance, they define such Islam as "tamed Islam" in a frequently used phrase.
..."Islam is both a religion and a state..."
2. CIA Activities In Turkey
The following is just one paragraph from a Wikipedia article:
Moderate Islam Project
There is a common belief in Turkey that the U.S. has a policy of supporting the proliferation of what has been termed "moderate Islam". This hypothesis is supported by statements in support by U.S. policy makers. Indeed, the term was coined by the former vice chairman of the CIA's National Intelligence Council, Graham E. Fuller.[7] This "moderate" strain of Islam is exemplified by the Nur movement led by Fethullah Gülen.[8]

What are your thoughts on this CIA project? Good/bad/subversion/etc.?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment and I love your blog. It's very informative.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, We shouldn't have been in Vietnam, based on that fact alone, that makes the Phoenix Program completely wrong.
Secondly, I'm sure that countless innocent Vietnamese were executed by our troops and the Vietnamese themselves (for reasons other than Pacification).
The Phoenix Program was one giant slaughter machine. It had no positive affect on the outcome of the war.
Actually, it caused more hatred towards Americans, and it was VERY counter-productive.
