******* Walking Stick *******
********************************

By Sarah Capogrossi

I was sitting alone on a bench in the park
Waiting for the summer skies to dark.
My soul was hanging between the trees and the stars
As my heart was beating steadily and fast.

I watched a child play with a dog
A couple rolling in the grass,
An old woman knitting and talking to God
A man dwelling over his past.

Humans gathered in a big garden
Strangers moving on surreal ground,
Each with his story, his home, his name
All so different yet all the same.

An old grandad suddenly appeared
Asked me whether he could sit next to me,
And as he sat and overcame his fear
I smiled feeling safe, free to be me...
